One killed in crash involving stationary truck at Ako Adjei interchange
A motorist has lost his life following a collision between a saloon car and a stationary truck at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra during the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The victim, who was driving a Zedrive vehicle with registration number GW 6334-26, became trapped inside the mangled car after it crashed into a KIA Rhino truck bearing registration number GE 1120-15.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), an emergency alert was received at approximately 1:16 a.m., prompting firefighters from the Service's headquarters to immediately respond to the scene.
The rescue team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I) Yussif Yakubu, arrived within minutes and found the driver pinned inside the wreckage. A medical examination conducted at the scene confirmed that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
Firefighters subsequently undertook a rescue and recovery operation, using specialised equipment to remove parts of the damaged vehicle, including the driver's door and steering wheel, to retrieve the body.
The operation was successfully completed at about 2:14 a.m.
Preliminary findings suggest the saloon car rammed into the rear of a disabled truck that had been left stationary on the roadway. However, authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the crash, the GNFS reminded motorists to take appropriate safety precautions whenever their vehicles develop faults on the road, particularly during nighttime travel.
The Service advised drivers to place reflective triangles or other warning devices at a safe distance from disabled vehicles to alert approaching road users and reduce the risk of collisions.
The GNFS also extended its sympathies to the family of the deceased and urged all motorists to remain vigilant and comply with road safety regulations at all times.
