Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew and head coach Carlos Queiroz have expressed confidence in the team's preparedness for their opening World Cup fixture against Panama, assuring President John Dramani Mahama that the squad is fully focused and ready for the challenge.

The assurance was given during a virtual engagement between the Presidency and the national team on Wednesday, June 17, as the Black Stars intensified preparations for their first match of the tournament.

Addressing the players and technical staff, President Mahama conveyed the support of Ghanaians both at home and abroad, stressing that the nation was firmly behind the team as it embarks on its World Cup campaign.

He commended the squad's performances in recent friendly matches, describing them as encouraging signs of progress and urging the players to build on that momentum when they face Panama.

The President called on the team to remain united, disciplined and determined, reminding them that they carry the hopes of millions of Ghanaians and serve as ambassadors of the nation's football heritage.

He also encouraged the players to draw inspiration from former Black Stars greats, including Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah, who played pivotal roles in some of Ghana's memorable moments on the international stage.

President Mahama further expressed confidence in the leadership of captain Jordan Ayew and the ability of the squad to work together effectively in pursuit of success at the tournament.

He also reaffirmed his support for head coach Carlos Queiroz, noting that despite his relatively short time with the team, he had demonstrated the qualities needed to guide the Black Stars through the competition.

The President added that football fans across the country would be closely following the match and rallying behind the team throughout the contest.

Responding on behalf of the players, Jordan Ayew thanked the President for the encouragement and assured him that the squad was fully prepared and determined to make the nation proud.

The Black Stars skipper acknowledged the expectations of supporters but said the team remained focused on securing a positive result and beginning the tournament on a strong note.
