S/R: Gonjaland Youth Association calls for establishment of security Post at Jakpa Palace

The Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) has made a strong appeal to Ghana’s security agencies to establish a dedicated security post at the Jakpa Palace, the official seat of the King and Overlord of the Gonjaland Traditional Council.
This call was made following a comprehensive roundtable discussion held with various youth groups and stakeholders from across the Savannah Region.
The meeting, aimed at fostering unity and promoting responsible conduct—particularly on social media—also addressed pressing regional issues such as herder-farmer conflicts, land disputes, chieftaincy matters, and general security.
The Jakpa Palace, which also serves as the seat of the President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, was identified as a critical location in need of security reinforcement.
Stakeholders at the meeting unanimously agreed that the palace’s current reliance on local warriors for protection was insufficient, given its regional significance.
During a meeting with the President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, the leadership of GLYA expressed serious concern over the lack of a permanent security presence at the palace.
They specifically called on the 155 Armoured Regiment and other national security services to assign personnel to safeguard the palace and its occupants.
GLYA Secretary, Muftawu, voiced optimism that the dialogue with stakeholders would contribute to addressing the growing security challenges in the region, many of which are inflamed by misinformation and tensions arising from social media platforms.
He stressed that establishing a security post at the Jakpa Palace would not only symbolise respect for traditional authority but also ensure the safety and stability of a critical institution within Gonjaland.
