Sunyani to experience 3-day power rotation as VRA, NEDCo act

The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) have introduced a short-term power rationing plan for parts of the Sunyani area after a transformer owned by GRIDCo developed a fault.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, January 21, the two power agencies said the interim arrangement is meant to regulate electricity demand while repair works are carried out and full transformer capacity is restored.

Under the arrangement, affected communities have been divided into three clusters, each receiving power supply at different periods over a three-day cycle.

Affected areas

Cluster One: Nana Bosoma Market, Newtown, Estate, Baakoniaba, Asufufu, Wawasua, Nanketwa, Municipal area, Town Centre, Zinco, Airport, sections of UENR, St. Mary’s and nearby communities.

Cluster Two: Abesim Estate, Tanoso, Yamfo, Susuanso, Ghana Water Company Limited area, Abesim, Mayfair, Nkwabeng North, Odumase, Pastoral Penkwase, Synod NMTC and adjoining areas.

Cluster Three: Nimpong, Sunyani Technical University (STU), GETFund area, Magazine, SUSEC, Dr. Berko, St. James, Glamossay, Nkrankrom, Fiapre, Dumasua, Mantukwa, Ayakomaso, Nsoatre and surrounding communities.

The schedule outlines the specific periods during which each cluster will receive electricity while the load management measures remain in place.

VRA and NEDCo expressed regret for the disruption and assured customers that technical teams are working to resolve the fault and reinstate normal power supply as quickly as possible.
