TogetHER Project says clean-up exercise is a collaborative effort

On World Clean-up Day, the TogetHER Project, implemented by SOCODEVI, joined forces with the District Assembly, CAMFED, Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO), and Youth Mappers from the University of Ghana to organise a beach clean-up exercise behind the Arts Centre in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Martha Rainer Opoku Mensah, Principal Coordinator of the TogetHER Project, underscored the importance of keeping the environment clean as a foundation for healthy living.
She stressed that environmental cleanliness should not be reserved for symbolic occasions like World Clean-up Day but embraced as a daily responsibility for all.
Martha urged the District Assembly to play a more active role in sustaining environmental cleanliness by conducting regular sensitisation exercises in coastal communities.
She also called for the provision of dustbins and waste management facilities to promote proper waste disposal and reduce the spread of plastic pollution.
“The fight against plastic waste requires both education and infrastructure.
With regular engagement and the right facilities, communities can take ownership of their environment,” she said.
The clean-up formed part of the TogetHER Project’s broader mission to educate communities on the benefits of a clean environment and promote healthy, sustainable living.
By partnering with local institutions and youth organisations, the project aims to build a culture of environmental responsibility that goes beyond one-off activities.
