Passengers at the Hohoe Taxi Station in the Volta Region have expressed deep frustration over what they describe as exorbitant fares being charged by some commercial drivers

According to the commuters, the normal fare, which previously cost GH¢50 from Hohoe to Ho has suddenly been increased by drivers to as high as GH¢80, placing an unexpected financial burden on travelers.

Several passengers who spoke to the media lamented that the situation is unfair and exploitative, especially in the face of the current economic hardship. They appealed to the Hohoe Municipal Assembly and relevant transport unions to intervene and ensure that fares are regulated to prevent further exploitation.

“The increment is too much. From GH¢50 to GH¢80 is not fair at all. The authorities must step in to control this,” a frustrated passenger said.

Meanwhile, some drivers at the station have justified the increase, citing rising fuel prices and other operational costs as the reason behind the adjustment.

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly is yet to officially respond to the concerns of passengers. However, commuters are hopeful that urgent steps will be taken to restore fares to reasonable levels and bring relief to the traveling public.
