Victor Kofi Owusu stands firm amid family dispute over Daddy Lumba’s legacy
Victor Kofi Owusu, the Abusuapanin (family head) of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has firmly rejected calls from a faction of the musician’s extended family seeking his removal.
The controversy follows a meeting on 25 February 2026, where some family members, along with the Chiefs of Parkoso, raised grievances and demanded that Owusu step down from his traditional role.
Addressing the situation in an interview with Ezra TV on 26 February 2026, Mr Owusu dismissed the allegations and questioned the authority of those advocating for his ouster, particularly targeting Mama China, one of the leading voices calling for change. According to him, she is not part of the Ekuona clan and therefore does not have the cultural standing to challenge his leadership.
Owusu emphasised that the support of a few Ekuona family members for her position does not grant her or her allies legitimacy in the family hierarchy.
He reinforced that, according to Ashanti custom, the Abusuapanin can only be removed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and no other family faction has the authority to do so.
