3 ECG staff steal ¢2.1m to buy houses, cars

Three former staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) together with six private power vendors and one technician at the Ghana Electrometer Company, have conspired to steal GH¢2.1worth of power credit and shared the booty.
They have been arraigned for stealing and money laundering.
The first accused person, Mr Ali Nansii Shaibu, a computer programmer at the power distrbutor's IT department conspired with the two others (Grace Gardener, a cashier; and Anthony Quaye, a technician, both at the Kasoa branch and Anthony Quaye a technician at the ECG Kasoa branch) to sell prepaid credits and share the proceeds without accounting for them.
The fourth accused person is named as Ibrahim Baba Adams.
The prosecutors told the court that the accused persons used the loot to buy a Toyota Highlander Station Wagon, a Mercedes Benz and two houses located at Amasaman, Accra; and Bohyen Junction, Kumasi.
The properties belong to the first accused person.
They have all pleaded not guilty but admitted to the crime and refunded GH¢282, 600 to the company.
The accused persons have been remanded in police custody.
