A/R: Palm wine tapper shot dead by two colleagues

Two palm wine tappers have been arrested for allegedly shooting a 35-year-old colleague palm wine tapper and hunter, Yaw Kwakye, dead at Nweneso No1 in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti region.

The suspects are Paa Willi and Mustapha.

The incident occurred around 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

An elder brother of the deceased, Kwame Oduro told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that his late brother had gone to the palm wine distillery site to collect his money and a metal pipe from Paa Willi, the owner of the site.

He said because his brother was also a hunter, he went to the palm wine distillery site with his gun.

Mr. Oduro said a misunderstanding and a struggle ensued between Paa Willi, Mustapha and his late brother, and in the process, he was shot with the gun he went to the site with.

He said his late brother was shot in the breast close to his armpit and died on the spot.

Mr. Oduro who demanded justice for his late brother, called for a swift investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the suspects are currently in the custody of the Foase police while investigations commence.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed by the police to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
