Armed attack on Adamus Mines, key suspects arrested

Adamus Mines, a prominent mining company, came under violent attack in the early hours of Thursday, December 12, 2024, when a group of heavily armed individuals stormed the facility in a coordinated assault.
The attackers, reportedly led by Laurent Gaba, an alleged illegal immigrant from Togo, and Isaac Ackun, an employee of BCM Ghana Limited, were said to be allegedly acting on behalf of Paul List, according to preliminary investigations.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the assailants forced their way into the company’s premises, assaulted staff, and vandalized critical infrastructure and equipment.
The attack caused extensive damage to property, including administrative offices, vehicles, and mining equipment, with losses estimated at millions of cedis.
Authorities suspect the attack was a premeditated attempt to unlawfully seize control of the company, owned by Angela List.
In response to the incident, the Western Regional Police Command swiftly apprehended the key suspects, Gaba, Ackun, and several associates, and launched a comprehensive investigation into the attack.
Adamus Mines condemned the assault in a press statement, describing it as a "deliberate and illegal invasion."
A company representative called on the government to ensure justice is served and to strengthen measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Solomon Owusu, President of Lands and Mines Watch (LMW), a group advocating for fair mining practices, also denounced the attack. Issuing a stern warning, he vowed to resist any attempts to unlawfully disrupt the operations of Adamus Mines or exploit the country’s mining resources.
“This is a direct threat to Ghanaian mining interests, and such actions will be met with resolute opposition. We are prepared to defend this industry with every ounce of our strength,” Owusu declared.
