C/R: Six busted for allegedly lynching Prisons officer at Kasoa
The Ghana Prisons Service has confirmed the death of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a Prisons officer stationed at Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
The officer is alleged to have been brutally lynched by an unknown mob in Kasoa Iron City on Sunday, 29 September 2024.
According to a statement issued Sunday, 6 October 2024, the officer, who had sought permission to visit family in Kasoa, was besieged and killed by unidentified attackers.
“The Prisons Administration is collaborating with the Police to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the officer,” the statement revealed.
Investigations have made headway, with the arrest of six suspects, four women and two men, who have since been remanded into police custody as authorities continue to dig deeper into the incident.
“The Service wishes to caution the general public against the use of 'instant justice' in dealing with suspects but to resort to the Police to avoid harming and killing innocent individuals,” the Prisons Service warned.
The leadership of the Service reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice for the fallen officer, pledging to hold the culprits accountable. They also extended their heartfelt sympathies to Lance Corporal Boakye’s grieving family and loved ones.
“The entire Service commiserates with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased officer and urges all officers to remain calm as steps are being taken to ensure that justice is served,” the statement added.
