GFL calls for transparent probe into GHS 653 million National Service scandal

The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, has called for a full, transparent, and non-partisan investigation into the charges brought by the Office of the Attorney-General against two former top officials of the National Service Authority (NSA).
The former Executive Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, and former Deputy Executive Director, Gifty Oware-Mensah, have been accused of allegedly defrauding the state of about GHS653 million.
According to court documents filed at the High Court in Accra, the two are alleged to have masterminded a complex scheme involving “ghost” service personnel and fraudulent bank loans.
Speaking on Ahotor FM's show on Saturday, October 18, 2025, Mr. Koomson said the matter must be handled strictly through legal and institutional processes, free from political interference.
“The scandal is before the court, and we must allow the law to take its full course,” he stated.
“If our country enforces strict punitive measures against individuals who cause financial loss to the state, it will serve as a strong deterrent to others entrusted with public funds.”
Mr. Koomson also cited the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, which seeks to retrieve misappropriated public funds.
He acknowledged that while the operation’s progress had been slow, recent actions by the Attorney-General’s Office demonstrated renewed commitment to accountability.
“The fight against corruption must not be selective.
Anyone found guilty of misusing public funds should face the full rigours of the law,” he emphasised.
Mr. Koomson further expressed confidence that the Attorney-General’s Office would ensure swift, fair, and transparent prosecution of all individuals implicated in the alleged fraud, adding that restoring public confidence in state institutions requires visible and impartial justice.
