Ghana Navy arrests 10 Nigerian stowaways aboard merchant vessel off Tema coast
The Ghana Navy has intercepted ten Nigerian nationals who attempted to stow away on the MV Grand Venus, a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, after responding to a distress call on Friday, October 31, 2025.
According to a statement from the Navy, the operation took place about eight nautical miles southeast of Tema, where naval personnel boarded the vessel and arrested the stowaways.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had secretly boarded the ship at the Lagos Port in Nigeria before it set sail.
The Grand Venus was subsequently escorted to the Tema Harbour, where the suspects were handed over to relevant authorities, including the Ghana Immigration Service, Port Control, and the Marine Police Unit, for further investigation and processing.
The Navy assured the public that additional details will be provided as investigations continue, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s maritime borders and ensuring security within the Gulf of Guinea.
The swift response underscores the Ghana Navy’s vigilance and operational readiness in addressing maritime security threats, including stowaway incidents, smuggling, and piracy.
