N/R: Breakthrough as police arrest fourth, key suspect in Wapuli kidnapping case
The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has made a major breakthrough in the investigation of the Wapuli kidnapping case, apprehending the fourth and key suspect after weeks of persistent surveillance.
On December 6, 2025, the PID successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been abducted in Wapuli.
At the time, three suspects from a four-member syndicate were arrested, while the victim had sustained life-threatening cutlass wounds. The perpetrators had demanded a ransom of GHS100,000 for his release, collecting GHS90,000 in total. Police were able to recover GHS70,000 of the amount.
Undeterred by the partial recovery, officers intensified intelligence gathering and conducted a manhunt for the remaining accomplice.
Their efforts paid off in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when Hoyeefe Amadu, the fourth suspect, was apprehended around 01:30 a.m. at a hideout approximately 10 kilometers from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the three previously arrested suspects remain in prison custody pending their next court appearance.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and to ensure all parties involved are brought to justice.
The police service has commended its officers for their vigilance and assured the public that efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the region will continue.
