W/R: Five suspects arrested over armed robbery at Asankrangwa spare parts shop
Police in the Asankrangwa have arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack at a spare parts shop in the area.
The suspects were arrested following a swift operation by officers of the Ghana Police Service after a complaint was lodged on March 12, 2026.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. when six armed men attacked a spare parts shop at Malta, a suburb of Asankrangwa, owned by a Chinese national identified as Chen Zchao.
The victim reported that he and his younger brother were in the shop when the assailants, wielding pump-action guns and cutlasses, robbed them of three mobile phones and cash amounting to GHS200,000.
The robbers reportedly fled the scene in a black Toyota Voxy heading towards Sefwi Bekwai.
Following the report, a night patrol team from the Asankrangwa District Police Command launched an immediate pursuit, while information was relayed to the Sumpre police checkpoint to intercept the suspects.
At about 8:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle approached the Sumpre police barrier.
Upon spotting officers at the checkpoint, the occupants attempted to flee on foot after abruptly opening the vehicle doors.
Police officers at the checkpoint, supported by the pursuing patrol team, chased and arrested four suspects.
They were identified as Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22.
A search conducted in the vehicle led to the retrieval of several items believed to be linked to the robbery, including three mobile phones, GHS198,200 in cash, two pump-action guns, fourteen AA cartridges, a Bruni Mod 84 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, a machete, an amulet, and two CCTV decoders.
Police said the suspects admitted during interrogation that they had travelled from Obuasi to carry out the robbery.
The four suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accomplices.
In a subsequent development, police confirmed that one additional suspect was arrested by community members and handed over to authorities to support ongoing investigations.
