The Ministry of Education has reiterated its strong commitment to eradicating early marriage among girls and promoting equal access to education, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to attend and complete school.

Speaking at CAMFED Ghana’s 2025 Tertiary Convening held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Frank Asiedu, Deputy Director at the Ministry’s Tertiary Directorate, announced that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other key partners to tackle this pressing social challenge.

Mr. Asiedu emphasised that policies already exist to curb early marriages, and the Ministry is determined to enforce these measures strictly to safeguard the rights of girls and enable them to pursue education without interruption.

He commended CAMFED Ghana for its unwavering support in advancing girls’ education and pledged continued partnership towards eliminating early marriage.

On her part, Fairuza Abdul Rashid Safian, Executive Director of CAMFED Ghana, underscored the critical role of education in empowering girls to realise their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.

She highlighted the transformative impact of girls’ education, noting that it helps delay marriage, promote better health outcomes, and strengthen economic independence.

Madam Safian further revealed that CAMFED Ghana has awarded scholarships to 781 girls, enabling them to pursue tertiary education across various disciplines — a key step toward reducing inequality and breaking the cycle of poverty through education and empowerment.
