Krobea Asante Tech, Voc. School closed down for vandalism

The Management of the Ghana TVET Council Service has closed down the Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region “with immediate effect.”
This comes on the back of violent demonstrations by students of the school, Sunday, 22 January 2023.
The school was closed down based on advice from the Sekyere East District Security Council.
A statement signed by the Director-General of the Ghana TVET, Mawusi Nudekor Awity, said: “The Security Services will be on hand to evacuate all the students to protect lives and properties.”
The Management of the TVET also assured parents that it “will keep them informed on any development.”
Meanwhile, some 40 students of the school, have been arrested for vandalism.
The students around 1 a.m. on Sunday, 22 January 2023, went on a rampage and destroyed school properties including vehicles.
They were protesting poor examination results for the year 2022.
School properties destroyed included four school vehicles: a bus, two pickups, and a Nissan Patrol SUV.
Windows of the school buildings; and other items at the school’s store were also destroyed.
The District Coordinator for Senior High Schools, Mr Ebenezer Akwasi Opoku, told Class News’ regional correspondent, Elisha Adarkwah, that the students also destroyed cars belonging to the staff of the school including the Senior House Mistress'.
Although he said previously there have been minor demonstrations in the school, he described the damage caused to the school properties in Sunday’s demonstration as overwhelming.
The Police were called to restore calm.
Mr Opoku said some of the students have been invited by the police to assist in investigations while others are also on the run.
