Asantehene meets Kusang Traditional Council in push for lasting peace in Bawku

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is set to meet with the Kusang Traditional Council today, Monday, June 30, 2025, as part of a high-level initiative aimed at fostering lasting peace in the conflict-affected Bawku area.
The meeting, announced in a press release issued by the Manhyia Palace on June 29, forms part of the Asantehene’s broader mediation efforts in response to ongoing tensions and instability in the Bawku municipality of the Upper East Region.
According to the statement signed by the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene is appealing to all stakeholders involved in the Bawku crisis to cooperate fully in pursuit of a durable resolution.
“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II… requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” the release stated.
The Asantehene has long been recognised for his leadership in conflict resolution and traditional diplomacy.
His engagement in the Bawku conflict underscores the national urgency to resolve the protracted ethnic and chieftaincy disputes that have plagued the area for years.
The outcome of today’s meeting is expected to signal a renewed commitment to peacebuilding and reconciliation among the factions involved.
