The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Central Region has announced plans to clamp down on large billboards mounted at unsafe locations, citing the growing risk they pose to lives and property.

Regional NADMO Director, Mr. Kwesi Mensah Dawood, made this known on Tuesday, May 24, 2025, during a visit to the site of a tragic building collapse at London Bridge in Cape Coast, which claimed the lives of two people.

According to Mr. Dawood, the initiative forms part of NADMO’s broader safety strategy, designed to prevent disasters in high-risk areas.

He expressed concern over the recent spate of disasters across the region, with incidents reported in 11 districts and municipalities, affecting more than 4,000 people in less than a month.

The Director also called on corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to support NADMO’s ongoing relief efforts, particularly in aiding those affected by the Cape Coast building collapse, which occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2025, following hours of heavy rainfall.

Mr. Dawood appealed to residents of Cape Coast to fully cooperate with the NADMO Disaster Management Team, led by Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr George Justice Arthur, in a joint exercise to demolish structurally weak buildings in the city.

So far, three buildings have been pulled down as part of the operation, including structures located near Zion School, Brofoyedur, and the collapsed London Bridge site.

Several other buildings deemed unsafe have been earmarked for demolition in the coming days.

Victims of the London Bridge disaster have also appealed to charitable organisations and individuals for support, recounting their losses and the urgent need for shelter, food, and basic necessities.
