The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), in collaboration with the Ghana Prisons Service, has graduated the first batch of 1,760 Prison Service Assistants(PSAs) at a colourful ceremony held at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region.

The recruits were selected from over 5,000 applicants nationwide under YEA’s special recruitment programme aimed at creating jobs for young people while supporting the country’s correctional facilities.

The initiative forms part of a broader plan to recruit and deploy 5,000 young Ghanaians across the country to assist in prison administration, rehabilitation, and national security efforts.

Speaking at the ceremony, YEA Chief Executive Officer, Malik Basintale, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable job creation through strategic partnerships.

“This collaboration demonstrates how we can empower our youth with decent employment opportunities while strengthening key national institutions like the Prisons Service.

Today’s passing out parade is not just a milestone for the graduates but also for Ghana’s security and rehabilitation agenda,” Mr. Basintale said.

Officials of the Prisons Service commended the trainees for their discipline and resilience during the programme, urging them to maintain professionalism and integrity in their service.

The recruitment initiative is expected to ease the pressure on correctional officers, enhance security within prison facilities, and provide career pathways for young Ghanaians in law enforcement and public service.

The graduates will soon be deployed to prison facilities across the country to begin their national service.
