A/R: Three injured in stampede during Ghana Armed Forces recruitment at Baba Yara Stadium
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that a stampede during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi has left three applicants injured.
According to NADMO officials, two of the victims were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while one was admitted to the Emina Hospital for medical treatment.
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of NADMO, Prince Ahmed, explained in an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that the incident occurred when crowds surged toward the queue, causing panic and overcrowding at the venue.
He noted that authorities had since taken steps to enhance crowd control and safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
Mr Ahmed further appealed for the extension of the recruitment deadline and proposed that applicants be invited in batches to ensure an orderly and safer exercise.
