Arise Ghana demo: You were unprofessional – Okoe Vanderpuije slams police
The Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has chided the police administration for lacking professionalism in handling the participants of the Arise Ghana demonstration.
The protesters clashed with the police phalanx amid the firing of rubber bullets and tear gas.
There were injuries on both sides.
So far 29 of the demonstrators have been arrested.
The police, in a statement, condemned the breach of the agreement by the demonstrators.
Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije took the police administration on while speaking on Accra100.5FM’s morning show hosted by Kwame Obeng Sarkodie on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
“We cannot have our people who are just demonstrating over some things they feel are not right in the country, treated this way”, he bemoaned.
“This is not the way to treat people who are demonstrating to register their displeasure”, the former mayor of Accra said.
“I am disappointed the IGP’s men on the ground failed in the execution of the lofty marching orders, he gave to the troops ahead of the commencement of the demonstration at Obra Spot in the Greater Accra Region”, Mr Vanderpuije noted.
He said one of the demonstrators, who lost one eye to a stray bullet is his constituent.
He said the gentleman is on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Eye Department.
Mr Vanderpuije said the doctors will, today, reveal what is wrong with the eye
