The Interior Ministry, has announced a curfew for Sampa Township in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.

The curfew took effect from Thursday, 24 October 2024.

This curfew will be enforced nightly from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM until further notice, according to a statement released by the Interior Ministry.

The decision to implement the curfew follows recommendations from the Bono Regional Security Council in response to ongoing chieftaincy disputes that have unsettled the area.

In an effort to restore peace, government has urged local chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint and seek non-violent avenues to address their concerns.

“Government urges Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement, signed by the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, emphasised.

In addition to the curfew, the Interior Ministry has instituted a complete ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the township.

The ministry has warned that individuals found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution.
