Napo criticises NDC Minority for 'unruly conduct' in Parliament
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Vice-Presidential Candidate and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South in the Ashanti Region has condemned the actions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Caucus, referring to their behaviour in Parliament last Tuesday, October 22, 2024, as "unruly."
Dr. Prempeh criticized NDC MPs for allegedly provoking the Majority Caucus by occupying seats assigned to the Majority, an action he claims was intended to incite a confrontation.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized that Parliament, as an institution of intellectual debate, should never be used for physical altercations.
“The free-for-all fight and bloodshed they [NDC Minority] were expecting in Parliament last Tuesday, we didn’t give them.
We didn’t give them because we are disciplined and mature.
We understand that Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring.
Unlike them, the NPP always prioritizes the peace and stability of this country,” he stated.
With almost 16 years in Parliament, Dr. Prempeh advised his NDC colleagues to refocus on their legislative responsibilities and their role in representing their constituents, rather than engaging in actions he described as "reprehensible" for honourable members.
Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as "Napo," made these comments during a Stakeholders Engagement on October 24, 2024, while addressing students of the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College as part of his campaign tours in the Greater Accra Region.
He took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the NPP government in the health sector, including the Agenda 111 hospital project and the restoration of nursing trainee allowances, which he noted had been canceled under the previous NDC administration.
He encouraged the students to maintain their confidence in the NPP and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, pledging that an NPP government would continue to improve conditions in the health sector and provide better opportunities for nursing professionals across Ghana.
