The Flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged his party’s commitment to safeguarding peace throughout Ghana’s December 7 elections and beyond.

Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Yendi in the Northern Region, the NDC flagbearer highlighted his commitment to the nation’s stability.

“The peace and tranquillity of our country mean more to me than anything else,” he affirmed, stressing his dedication to ensuring that political actions do not compromise the harmony that Ghana has long enjoyed.

According to Mr. Mahama, Ghana’s peaceful religious coexistence remains a point of pride, often admired by other nations in the sub-region.

“We’ve always been the envy of many countries in our sub-region where peace has eluded them,” the NDC flagbearer said, urging all Ghanaians to guard against complacency as election day approaches.

Likening peace to a fragile egg, Mr. Mahama cautioned all to safeguard the peace of the nation.

“As we approach the elections we should never forget that peace is fragile and like an egg once it is cracked it cannot be put together again without the scars showing.

“The peace and tranquility of our country means more to me than anything else,” the NDC flagbearer stated.

Mr. Mahama commended the Catholic Diocese of Yendi for its 25 years of rural evangelism, acknowledging the church’s influence in spreading “faith, hope, and transformation.”

He encouraged the church to remain adaptable in a rapidly changing world while staying “steadfast in its mission to spread the gospel of the kingdom of God.”

The NDC flagbearer also extended his hopes for a future where every Ghanaian can thrive in a nation that upholds “peace, integrity, and respect for one another.”

Mr. Mahama added: “I make a solemn commitment to you on this occasion that the party that I lead will do all in our power to preserve the peace of our dear nation Ghana.”
