Bridget Bonnie, alongside a group of supporters, visited the Senior Correctional Centre (Borstal Homes) to uplift and empower young inmates through messages of hope and practical advice. 

The visit aimed to inspire the residents to embrace rehabilitation opportunities, foster growth, and prepare them for a brighter future after their release.  

During the visit, the group engaged in heartfelt discussions with the inmates, encouraging them to view their time in the facility as an opportunity for transformation. Ms. Bonnie urged the residents to focus on self-improvement, emphasising education, skill acquisition, and personal development as keys to rebuilding their lives. 

“This place is not your limitation; it’s your chance to grow, learn, and plan for a better tomorrow,” she encouraged.  

A central theme of the visit was the value of education and vocational training. Ms. Bonnie highlighted the importance of utilising the available academic or practical resources to gain skills that could lead to a productive future. 

“Everything you learn here, from academics to crafting, can shape your life beyond these walls,” she said, motivating the inmates to look beyond their circumstances and envision a positive future.  

The group further supported the centre by donating items to enhance the beading training programme, which equips inmates with marketable skills. Donations included sugar beads, pearls, earring stoppers, fabrics, and other crafting essentials. 

Additionally, they provided food items such as rice, beans, cooking oil, beverages, and educational materials like exercise books and A4 papers, aiming to improve the inmates’ daily lives and learning environment.  

Speaking on the initiative, one of the donors noted, “Our support is a message that they are not defined by past mistakes but by the positive choices they make moving forward. We’re investing in their potential to succeed.”  

The visit was warmly received by both the inmates and staff, who expressed gratitude for the encouragement and contributions. 

With renewed optimism, the inmates were reminded that their futures hold promise, and with support from compassionate individuals like Bridget Bonnie and her team, they can emerge stronger and better equipped for life beyond the correctional centre.
