Daasebre backs calls for forensic audit of voter register ahead of polls
Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, the immediate past Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register compiled for the December 7, general elections.
His call comes amid rising concerns about discrepancies uncovered during the recent exhibition of the voter register across the country.
Speaking at a press briefing in the Central Region, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII highlighted allegations of inflated voter numbers and the transfer of unknown individuals into constituency registers, with particular reference to the Ajumako Enyan Essiam and Pusiga Constituencies.
“The cost of violence, if any, far outweighs the cost of an audit,” he stated, emphasizing the need for transparency to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
The chief urged the EC, led by Chairperson Jean Mensa, to respond to the growing calls from civil society organizations, political parties, and concerned citizens for a forensic audit of the voter register.
Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII stressed that addressing these concerns ahead of the polls is crucial to eliminate doubts and foster confidence in the upcoming 2024 elections.
"With the elections looming, it is crucial to address concerns surrounding the voter register to prevent potential disputes and ensure a peaceful electoral process," he added.
