Freemasonry is not an occultic, anti-Christ society: Afenyo-Markin
Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin has asserted "freemasonry is not an occultic society".
"Freemasonry is not a secret society," he added. "Freemasonry is not an anti-Christ organisation."
He spoke to Emefa Apawu on Joy News' Probe, indicating his Catholic priests had not denied him the service of communion at his home or office after his being a freemason member became national news.
The Minority Leader in Parliament, he observed unlike the Accra Catholic Archdiocese led by Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Cape Coast Catholic Archdiocese led by Archbishop Charles G. Palmer-Buckle had not rebuked Catholics who were also freemasons – he noted he was under the authority of the latter.
He said given the opportunity to jaw-jaw, "my bishops will realise there is no difference between freemasonry and the [Knights of] Marshall and Knights of St John.
"These are fraternal societies that talk about value systems, and how we should live our lives. It is a noble society that teaches how to live life and how to even be a better Chistian.
"There are Methodist priests who attend masonry."
"I am a Christian and I will not join a society that is an anti-Christ society," Afenyo-Markin declared.
"Those things you watch on TV, they say occult, taking blood, doing those [strange and scary] things, that's not Freemasonry. In fact, at the perfection stage of masonry, you must profess Christ."
He held up a copy of the Rose Croix, noting it covers "when you're perfected.
"Everything in this [book] is about the New Testament, and about Christ."
