Ghana Armed Forces to recruit 12,000 personnel in massive expansion drive

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of a major expansion exercise that will see 12,000 new personnel recruited over the next three years to strengthen the country’s national defence capabilities.
The initiative, which begins this week, is in line with the commitment of President and Commander-in-Chief, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to affordability, accessibility, and fairness in national recruitment processes.
Lower Cost of Recruitment Forms
As part of efforts to ensure equal opportunity, the Ministry of Defence in a statement signed by the Deputy Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, said it has reduced the cost of recruitment forms by over 40% compared to the previous exercise.
The statement says this measure is intended to make the process more affordable for prospective applicants across the country.
Regional Recruitment for National Inclusion
Recruitment will take place in all regions of Ghana, a move aimed at guaranteeing inclusiveness and fair representation.
“The recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces is NOT for sale—and will NEVER be for sale under our #EagleEyes watch,” the statement declared, warning against fraudulent syndicates that exploit desperate job seekers.
It further cautioned that any individual or group engaged in such illegal practices will be dealt with “without mercy.”
Transparent and Professional Process
The Armed Forces stressed that no recruitment would take place via social media platforms.
Instead, the process will be strictly professional, transparent, and merit-based.
All qualified applicants are expected to meet medical fitness standards and be ready to embrace the discipline and sacrifices that come with military service.
Application requirements, detailed procedures, and designated regional centres will be officially published this week on the Ministry of Defence website, the Ghana Armed Forces website, as well as selected newspapers and electronic media outlets.
A Force for Unity and Strength
According to the GAF, the expansion programme is designed to build “a force that reflects the strength, discipline, and unity of Ghana.”
