Ghana has officially launched its National Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum in New York, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The launch, led by President John Dramani Mahama in partnership with the World Bank, underscores Ghana’s commitment to expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all citizens.

Under the Compact, Ghana has committed to four major targets:

Raising the share of renewable energy in the national mix from 4% to 10% by 2026 and 30% by 2030;

Mobilising investments to expand energy access and infrastructure;

Promoting clean cooking solutions to reduce dependence on traditional fuels;

Advancing the productive use of energy to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

“Ghana believes universal energy access is essential for empowering businesses, reducing poverty, and creating equal opportunities,” President Mahama said at the event.

The Mission 300 initiative is a continental partnership spearheaded by the World Bank Group, African Development Bank Group, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Its overarching goal is to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030.

The launch positions Ghana as a key player in Africa’s clean energy transition, aligning with global efforts to accelerate climate resilience and sustainable development.
