Ghana has officially launched its National Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative, reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all citizens.

The launch took place at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum in New York, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The event was jointly led by President John Dramani Mahama and the World Bank.

Outlining Ghana’s ambitious targets, the Compact commits to:

Raising the share of renewable energy in the national mix from the current 4% to 10% by 2026 and 30% by 2030;

Mobilising investments to strengthen energy access and infrastructure;

Promoting clean cooking solutions to cut dependence on traditional fuels;

Advancing the productive use of energy to spur jobs and drive economic growth.

“Ghana believes universal energy access is essential for empowering businesses, reducing poverty, and creating equal opportunities,” President Mahama said during the launch.

Mission 300 is a continent-wide initiative led by the World Bank Group, African Development Bank Group, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Rockefeller Foundation, with the goal of connecting 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.

Ghana’s Compact is expected to position the country as a leader in Africa’s energy transition while strengthening its long-term resilience and economic competitiveness.
