Gov't renews curfew in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba amid security concerns
The Ministry of the Interior has renewed the curfew imposed on the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba township and its surrounding communities in the Savannah Region.
The revised curfew hours—12:00 midnight to 5:00 a.m.—take effect on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The decision, taken on the advice of the Regional Security Council and formalised through an Executive Instrument, is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the area, which has experienced periodic tensions.
In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government appealed to traditional authorities, community leaders, and youth groups to remain calm and use peaceful channels to address grievances.
Government, the statement emphasised, “continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.”
As part of the renewed security measures, residents are reminded of several strict directives:
A total ban remains in force on the carrying of firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Individuals found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
No two or more persons are permitted to ride on motorbikes at any time of the day.
The wearing of war regalia of any kind is prohibited.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace and urged the public to cooperate fully with security agencies enforcing the curfew and related restrictions.
The directive was issued on November 26, 2025.
