The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has delivered essential relief items to affected squatters at Dagombaline following a devastating fire that razed the slum area on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The fire destroyed property worth thousands of Ghana cedis and left hundreds of settlers displaced.

In response to the immediate needs of the victims, the KMA provided a range of supplies, including mattresses, mosquito nets, and multiple bags of rice and maize. 

Other essential goods, such as bales of second-hand clothing, plastic buckets, and cups, were also distributed to help victims manage their daily needs during this hard time.

In the wake of the fire, many victims have already begun rebuilding their makeshift structures to secure shelter. 

While the KMA’s intervention provides immediate comfort, the assembly acknowledges that a long-term strategy is necessary to prevent future outbreaks.

The Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, also known as King Zuba, visited the fire scene today, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, to present the items and sympathise with the victims. 

He stated that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) will conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify the root causes of these recurrent outbreaks. 

The mayor urged the settlers to cooperate fully with the authorities as they worked toward a lasting solution to break the cycle of annual fire disasters in the slum area.

Receiving the items, Mohammed Salifu, Chairman of the Oforikrom Dagombaline Scrap Dealers Association, expressed gratitude to the Kumasi Mayor for the support.

He pledged their cooperation with authorities in assessing and finding solutions to the fire outbreaks.
