Kwahu Afram Plains: Commercial drivers protest constant breakdown of ferry, bad roads
Scores of cargo and commercial drivers, along with other motorists, in Kwawu Afram Plains of the Eastern Region have staged a demonstration to protest the deteriorating condition of the ferry and the poor road network in the area.
Recognised as a significant food basket of the nation, Afram Plains has long suffered from inadequate infrastructure, leading to this demonstration.
Protesters are calling for government intervention to address the poor state of the ferry and the bad road conditions from Kwawu Tafo to Donkorkrom.
Participants in the protest carried placards with messages such as “Fix the two engines of the ferry,” “Fix Afram bridge,” and “No more reverse on the ferry,” to highlight their grievances. They explained that repeated appeals to authorities to fix these issues have yielded no results.
Joseph Appiah Boateng, the District Chief Executive, and Evans Kyei Ntiri, the Member of Parliament for Kwawu Afram Plains South, received the petition and assured the government would respond appropriately.
The DCE promised to undertake road reshaping from Kwawu Tafo to Donkorkrom.
Regarding the ferry, he assured that the government would collaborate with the Volta Lake Transport Company to address the ongoing challenges.
