LEAP disbursement underway: Minister monitors progress and addresses concerns

Disbursement for the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme has commenced, with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, acknowledging and overseeing the process.
The minister, accompanied by officials, was conducting monitoring visits to ensure the smooth distribution of funds to beneficiaries.
The LEAP programme provides critical financial support to vulnerable populations, including the aged, persons with disabilities, and orphaned and vulnerable children.
The current disbursement, according to the minister, covers two tranches: the 94th and 95th transfers, spanning the latter part of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
The minister acknowledged the enthusiasm and appreciation of beneficiaries who had received their payments. While recognising the support may seem modest, she expressed hope it would inspire beneficiaries to strive for more and create opportunities for themselves and others.
However, concerns have been raised about potential mismanagement of funds, with some individuals allegedly receiving payments without meeting the eligibility criteria.
In response, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey urged anyone with information about such instances to come forward, to facilitate necessary amendments to the programme.
The Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry also plans to graduate beneficiaries who no longer require support, making way for new, eligible recipients to join the programme. This effort aims to ensure the LEAP programme's sustainability and effectiveness in reducing poverty and promoting social protection.
