The Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency in the Central Region, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has confirmed that the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill otherwise known as the LGBTQ bill has been reintroduced in Parliament for consideration.

The bill, which seeks to prohibit LGBTQ activities and criminalize their promotion, advocacy, and funding, was passed by the 8th Parliament but did not receive Presidential assent under former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Mr Ntim Fordjour urged President John Dramani Mahama to sign the bill into law once it is passed by the current Parliament.

“Myself, Sam George, Hon Bedzrah, Hon Alhassan Tampuli, Hon Abdul Kabiru, and Hon Ekow Vincent—we have reintroduced the bill, and all efforts are being made to ensure its speedy passage so that the President can assent to it. It has already been admitted and received, so the legislative process will soon be set in motion,” he said.

He emphasized that since the bill remains unchanged, it is not expected to face significant delays in Parliament.

“The chiefs, imams, clergymen, and the coalition that supported the bill previously are still firmly behind it. Additionally, the Speaker of Parliament supports it, so we expect a swift passage,” he added.

He made this disclosure speaking in an interview with Citi News on Thursday, February 27.
