Lands Minister condemns attack on anti-illegal mining task force at Hwediem
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has strongly condemned the recent attack on personnel of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) during an enforcement exercise at Bronikrom near Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry on Monday, November 3, 2025, the incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, when a NAiMOS team was carrying out an operation against illegal mining activities in the area.
The Minister, after receiving a detailed briefing on the situation, described the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” emphasising the government’s zero tolerance for acts that undermine the fight against illegal mining — popularly known as galamsey.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah disclosed that he has already met with the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to discuss the matter and ensure that swift and thorough investigations are conducted to identify and prosecute all those involved.
“This aligns with the government’s unwavering commitment to hold accountable all individuals and groups who aid, support, or profit from the continued destruction of the nation’s environment,” the statement noted.
The Ministry reaffirmed its support for NAiMOS and other law enforcement agencies involved in the fight against illegal mining, assuring the public that the perpetrators of the attack will face the full rigour of the law.
The statement was signed by Paa Kwesi Schandorf, Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
