Konadu Agyemang Rawlings dies

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady of Ghana and a prominent political figure in her own right, has passed away at the age of 76.

She reportedly died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, according to sources close to the family.

The news of her passing has sent waves of grief and mourning across the nation, as Ghanaians remember her formidable legacy as the wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings and her impactful work as a champion for women's and children's rights.

As First Lady during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) eras, Nana Konadu was a trailblazer.

She was the first President of the 31st December Women's Movement, an organisation she founded, which played a pivotal role in mobilising women for socio-economic and political empowerment.

Her influence extended beyond ceremonial duties, making her one of the most active and visible First Ladies in Ghana's history.

Her political journey continued as she ventured into partisan leadership, founding the National Democratic Party (NDP) and making a historic bid for the presidency in the 2016 elections.

While the family is yet to release an official statement, the reported passing at the Ridge Hospital marks a profound moment of national loss.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is survived by her children: Zanetor Rawlings, MP for Korley Klottey, Kimathi Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, and Amina Rawlings.

The nation holds its breath, awaiting official confirmation and preparing to bid farewell to a woman who was, for decades, an indelible part of Ghana's political and social fabric.
