Wife of convicted former MASLOC official petitions President for presidential pardon

Mrs. Rayne Nana Serwah Agyeman-Axim, wife of Mr. Daniel Axim, a former Head of Operations at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has submitted a formal petition to President John Mahama, appealing for a Presidential Pardon for her husband, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to the President and delivered to the Flagstaff House on Friday, May 16, Mrs. Agyeman-Axim argued that her husband's conviction was politically motivated and not supported by the evidence presented during his trial.
She stated that throughout the five-year legal process at the High Court, none of the prosecution witnesses—including forensic auditors—linked Mr. Axim to any wrongdoing.
She cited the forensic report, which allegedly stated that “his actions were in line of duty,” but noted that the presiding judge disregarded this evidence.
“My husband’s conviction is solely political,” she wrote, expressing deep concern about the toll his imprisonment has taken on their family, particularly their five children.
She revealed that their youngest child developed unexplained health complications shortly after Mr. Axim’s incarceration and has been in and out of hospitals since.
According to the petition, Mr. Axim’s recent attempt to secure bail pending appeal was dismissed on May 5, 2025, following opposition from the Attorney-General.
Mrs. Agyeman-Axim also raised concerns about potential judicial bias, noting that the judge who handed down the conviction has since been promoted to the Court of Appeal.
Highlighting the financial and emotional strain on her family, Mrs. Agyeman-Axim pleaded with the President to consider her husband’s case as part of the upcoming Amnesty and Presidential Pardon initiative.
“Mr. Axim is the breadwinner of our family, and his continued absence has left us in hardship,” she wrote.
“I trust that my petition will meet your kind consideration.”
