Accra London Health Centre to revolutionise women’s healthcare in Ghana

Renowned global expert in sexual health and health equity, Dr. Vanessa Apea, has officially opened the Accra London Health Centre, a state-of-the-art women’s health facility aimed at delivering premium, culturally sensitive care that bridges London-level standards with the vibrant ethos of Accra.
Speaking at the grand opening of the centre in Accra, Dr. Apea—supported by her husband, Dr. John Apea—highlighted the critical gaps in women’s healthcare across West Africa.
She revealed that over 150 million women in the region lack access to adequate healthcare, despite the fact that 58 percent of them are economically active.
"Too often, women in Africa face overcrowded clinics and receive generic care," Dr. Apea said.
"African women deserve better—personalised, quality healthcare that respects their unique needs across all stages of life, from puberty and motherhood to menopause and ageing."
She described the establishment of the Accra London Health Centre as a bold vision shaped by her medical career and life experiences.
The centre, she emphasized, is designed to reimagine healthcare for women in Ghana—placing a premium on both physical and mental well-being.
“Healthcare is not a luxury; it is a right,” Dr. Apea stated.
“This centre reflects our commitment to delivering care that meets global standards while embracing the cultural context of Ghanaian women.”
The Accra London Health Centre offers cutting-edge services tailored specifically to women, with a focus on dignity, access, and innovation in care delivery.
Registrar of the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HEFRA), Dr. Winfred Baah, confirmed that the facility is fully registered and licensed to operate.
He noted that during HEFRA’s inspection, the team was highly impressed by the quality of infrastructure, medical equipment, and the overall safety standards in place.
“This is a top-notch facility,” Dr. Baah said. “We urge management to maintain these high standards, as HEFRA will continue its regular monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance and excellence.”
