The Awutu Senya East District office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has partnered with the Office of the Kasoa Market Queen Mother, Nakyei Densua I, to launch a comprehensive health awareness programme dubbed “My Health, My Wealth”.

The initiative, aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and strengthening health-seeking behaviours, brought National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal services directly to traders and residents of the Kasoa New Market Centre.

Held on 14th November 2025, the programme attracted leaders of market associations, Kayayei (head porters), and a wide cross-section of market traders.

Speaking at the event, AWE District Manager, Mrs. Josberta Gyan Kwakye, commended the Queen Mother for her visionary leadership in championing trader-focused health initiatives.

She used the platform to educate participants about the ongoing NHIS Month Initiative, the NHIS benefits package, and the Auto-Renewal feature on the Mobile Renewal platform.

Mrs. Gyan Kwakye also highlighted members’ rights and responsibilities under the Scheme and briefed attendees on the Authority’s strategic direction, including policies such as the upcoming Free Primary Healthcare initiative.

She cautioned against habitual self-medication, particularly the excessive use of painkillers for recurring headaches, and encouraged traders to seek prompt medical care at accredited facilities.

The programme also featured a sensitisation session led by DSP Doris Laryea, Central East Regional Coordinator for DOVVSU, who addressed personal safety and general well-being in the market environment.

Queen Mother Nakyei Densua I expressed her gratitude to the NHIA for partnering with her office to enhance the health and welfare of market women.

She urged traders to prioritise their health, make informed wellness decisions, and ensure themselves and their families are enrolled on the NHIS to benefit from its improved package.

Market women expressed appreciation for the NHIA’s outreach, noting that bringing services to their doorstep improves access for those with demanding schedules.

The collaboration has strengthened public confidence in the Scheme, raised health awareness, and boosted NHIS membership—supporting Ghana’s national goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

The “My Health, My Wealth” initiative is expected to benefit over 10,000 traders across the Municipality, marking a major step toward a healthier, more empowered market community.
