The National Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on Ghanaians to participate actively in the upcoming December 7 elections.

The NDC also urged Ghanaians not to abandon their voting rights due to past disappointments.

Speaking to residents of Akwasease in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency on Tuesday, 5 November 2024, the NDC national chairman cautioned that choosing not to vote could weaken Ghana's democracy and diminish opportunities for real change.

The NDC Chairman addressed growing sentiments among some citizens who are considering abstaining from the polls, citing unfulfilled promises by successive governments, particularly the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He argued that such a decision would ultimately empower the same leaders they wish to hold accountable.

“It beats my understanding when I hear people say they won’t vote just because a government did not fulfil its promises. It may be true that they couldn’t fulfil their promises, but that should not limit you from voting,” the NDC national chairman stated.

He emphasised that abstention serves only to benefit those in power.

“If you want to hold them accountable, not voting isn’t the answer. They know you helped put them in power, so they understand that you could vote against them next time. But if you choose not to vote, it gives them an advantage,” the NDC national chairman noted.

He concluded by rallying the community to come together in the election, underscoring the importance of unity for change.

“It is the time for us to unite as one people and vote them out. They have been bad at governance,” he urged.
