Health Minister introduces 24-hour cleaning service in all public hospitals
The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Korku Awoonor, to set up a technical working group to carry out a comprehensive audit of all health facilities in the Oti Region.
The audit will examine the structural soundness, operational capacity and overall productivity of the facilities, with the aim of strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring the safety of patients and health workers.
The directive was issued during the Ministry of Health’s two-day management retreat and forms part of the government’s broader strategy to tighten oversight of health infrastructure and ensure that public health facilities nationwide meet approved safety, quality and performance standards.
In a related move to improve the quality of care and patient experience, the Minister has also ordered the introduction of 24-hour cleaning services in all public hospitals across the country.
The initiative is intended to improve hygiene, enhance infection prevention and control, and create cleaner, safer and more patient-friendly healthcare environments.
According to the Ministry, the two interventions reflect its commitment to raising standards across the health sector through proactive supervision, improved facility management and sustained investments aimed at delivering quality healthcare to all Ghanaians.
