The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has donated two fully equipped ambulances to the Ghana National Ambulance Service (NAS) to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the constituency.

The donation, made at Tsito in the Volta Region on Monday, July 27, follows the breakdown of the two ambulances previously serving the constituency, leaving several communities without reliable emergency transport.

Mr Bedzrah said he decided to procure the ambulances after learning the existing vehicles had become non-functional, making it difficult for residents to access emergency medical care.

"I realised that the two ambulances allocated to Ho West had all broken down, and I could not sit unconcerned while my people struggled to access emergency healthcare. These ambulances are to serve every community in Ho West," he explained.

"I also want to use this medium to commend the management of Boss Energy for supporting to purchase one ambulance for my people. Looking at the situation and the population in my constituency, I couldn't buy one ambulance so I solicited support from Boss Energy and they help to buy one to add making it two," he acknowledged . 

He urged the ambulance service to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicles to guarantee continuous service, adding that discussions had already been held with the service's management on maintenance arrangements.

"I have done my part. It is now left with the ambulance service to maintain them. I also believe the district chief executive will support efforts to ensure these ambulances remain in active service for the people," he added.

The MP also announced plans to donate laptop computers to all health facilities in the district next week to support electronic medical records management and improve service delivery.

According to him, the initiative was informed by challenges identified during a visit to the Tsito Health Centre.

Mr Bedzrah further disclosed that renovation works on the Tsibu Health Facility had been awarded while three newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds would be commissioned next month to expand access to primary healthcare.

Receiving the ambulances, the Volta Regional Director of the National Ambulance Service, George Kojo Owusu, described the donation as timely, saying it would significantly improve emergency response in Ho West.

He stated that the ambulances, fitted with life-saving equipment and to be operated by trained emergency medical technicians, would enhance response times and facilitate the safe transfer of accident victims, pregnant women and critically ill patients to health facilities.

Mr Owusu assured the MP that the vehicles would be deployed immediately and maintained to the highest operational standards.

He also appealed to residents to protect the ambulances and use the national emergency number, 112, responsibly whenever emergency medical assistance was needed.
