Opoku-Agyemang donates to support surgery for 3-year-old boy with hole -in-heart
The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has come to the aid of a three-year-old boy, Patnam Kantam, who requires surgery to correct a hole in his heart.
On Thursday, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang donated $7,500 to cover the full cost of the surgery, along with an additional GHS 5,000 to support the boy’s upkeep after the procedure. Patnam, currently admitted at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, had been awaiting the funds needed for the life-saving operation.
Presenting the cheque and cash to the family at the hospital, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed hope that the surgery would be successful, allowing the child to recover fully. She also commended the staff of the Cardiothoracic Centre for their professionalism and dedication.
"I just want to express my appreciation for the care you have given him and so many others under different circumstances. It is a privilege to offer support where it is needed most," she said.
Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, lauded Prof. Opoku-Agyemang not only for her financial contribution but also for personally visiting the child and his family.
"A lot of people simply send a cheque through a dispatch rider, but you have taken the time to personally meet the child, the parents, and the staff. This is a remarkable gesture that reflects your love for children in this country," Dr. Entsua-Mensah remarked.
He assured that the young boy would soon be scheduled for surgery, with medical staff prepared to provide the best care possible.
Patnam's father, Mr. Abdul Majeed Kantam, expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her generosity. "We are overwhelmed by your kindness, and we pray for God's blessings upon your life," he said.
The donation highlights Prof. Opoku-Agyemang's dedication to supporting vulnerable individuals and underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing pressing healthcare needs.
