Zipline shutting down 3 centres over gov't's indebtedness
Ranking Member on the Health Committee Dr Ayew Afriyie has revealed that medical drone delivery company Zipline is shutting down three of its operational centres due to the government’s indebtedness, which he says had reached GH¢175 million.
He warned that the development posed a serious threat to public health, as the closures would significantly disrupt the delivery of blood, vaccines, and other essential medical supplies — particularly to remote communities that relied heavily on Zipline’s drone services.
Raising the issue during the debate on the 2026 Budget on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Dr Afriyie criticised the government for failing to engage Zipline and for neglecting to honour its financial commitments, despite the company’s crucial role in Ghana’s healthcare supply chain.
“Zipline is decommissioning three of its centres — Centres 4, 5, and 6. There has been no engagement and the government has been unable to provide funds,” he said.
“The allocation for Zipline was only GH¢20 million, even though the government currently owed the company GH¢175 million.”
