Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and running mate to the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, has made a significant donation to support traders affected by the recent fire at the Adum Blue Light market in the Kumasi metropolis.

Napo presented GH₵50,000 and 500 bags of cement to assist the victims in rebuilding their businesses and restoring their livelihoods.

His generous contribution follows a visit by the NPP’s 2024 Presidential Candidate and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also offered support and expressed sympathies to the affected traders.

Speaking during the presentation, Napo encouraged the traders to remain resilient and unified in the face of the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of solidarity.

He acknowledged the earlier visits of Dr. Bawumia, the Regional Minister, Kennedy Agyapong, and even former President Mahama, noting that his presence was to reaffirm his commitment to helping the victims.

“I am aware that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the regional minister, Kennedy Agyapong, and other dignitaries have already visited you.

Even President Mahama and some NPP executives have shown their support.

Therefore, it was only right for me to come here and show my solidarity with you,” Napo stated.

The devastating fire, which broke out recently, destroyed a large portion of the market, leaving many traders counting their losses, which are estimated to run into millions of Cedis.

Those affected are now grappling with salvaging what remains of their stock and dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.

Kofi Obiri Yeboah, Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, disclosed that the issue had been raised in Parliament, resulting in the formation of a committee to investigate the incident and explore ways to support the victims.

He expressed gratitude to all those who have shown support, including Dr. Bawumia and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, and called for unity among the affected traders.

Additionally, Napo announced that GH₵100,000 would be released from the Common Fund of the Manhyia South MP to further aid the reconstruction efforts, reaffirming his commitment to standing by the victims throughout their recovery process.
