Afenyo-Markin urges greater Minority inclusion ahead of Parliament’s resumption
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the Majority Caucus in Parliament to create more room for Minority participation as the House prepares to resume sittings.
Speaking at a leadership press briefing ahead of Parliament’s reopening on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Mr. Afenyo-Markin stressed the need for inclusiveness and cooperation in the legislative process to ensure effective governance.
According to him, the Majority must demonstrate greater openness by listening to alternative viewpoints and allowing the Minority to play a more active role in shaping and advancing legislative proposals.
He also expressed hope that the Speaker of Parliament would be more receptive to motions and initiatives brought forward by the Minority caucus.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin recalled that the previous parliamentary year was marked by frustration on the Minority side, as several of their motions were rejected, which he said limited their ability to contribute meaningfully to parliamentary business.
He emphasised that a more collaborative approach would strengthen parliamentary oversight and improve decision-making in the interest of the country.
Parliament is expected to resume sittings this week to consider a number of key legislative matters.
