Afigya Kwabre South MP rallies women to embrace leadership and education

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam, has commenced a thank-you tour across her constituency to express appreciation for the overwhelming support she received during the 2024 general elections.
During a community engagement in Kodie, the MP met with Queen Mothers in the constituency to convey her gratitude and encourage them to continue playing a pivotal role in mentoring young women.
She applauded their efforts in shaping future generations and urged them to empower girls to believe in themselves and actively contribute to national development.
Miss Appianimaa Salam also underscored the importance of the recently passed Affirmative Action Bill, which seeks to boost female representation in government to at least 30%.
She praised the initiative by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, which saw the bill passed into law on July 30, 2024.
Encouraging women to seize new opportunities in leadership, she called on them to follow her example and actively pursue roles in public service.
The MP also commended the growing interest of Ghanaian girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programmes and expressed optimism that the country would soon meet the 50% gender parity target set by the Act.
Emphasising the critical role of education and the need to prevent teenage pregnancies, Miss Appianimaa Salam advocated for the reintroduction of traditional rites such as Bragro, which she described as a cultural tool for instilling discipline and values in young girls.
Speaking on behalf of the Queen Mothers, Otumfuo Fontomfromhemaa reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the MP’s efforts to empower girls through education and cultural guidance.
She acknowledged that education remains the most powerful tool for breaking barriers and ensuring success for the girl child in Afigya Kwabre South.
