'Akufo-Addo gave me US$2,000 to help me run for PNC Gen. Sec. slot' - Bernard Mornah

A former Chairman of the People’s National Convention, Mr Bernard Mornah, has revealed that Nana Akufo-Addo, before he bacame president, once gave him US$2,000 to support his campaign for the general secretary slot of the PNC.
"President Akufo-Addo has been a very good person to me because when I was about running for the general secretary slot of the PNC for the first time, he gave me US$2,000", Mr Mornah told Ohenewaa Kesse Boahen on CTV's Obra Mu Nsem on Wednesday, 15 November 2023.
He narrated how Mr Akufo-Addo's spokesperson at the time, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, introduced him to the then-presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, after having seen him walking to the Neoplan Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, to get a bus to the northern part of the country, where the PNC was holding its internal elections.
Mr Mornah said Mr Akufo-Addo, after having been briefed about his circumstance by his spokesperson, just put his hand into his pocket and pulled out US$2,000, without counting, and gave it to him and wished him well in his endeavour.
Mr Mornah recounted Mr Akufo-Addo, whose campaign office was, at the time, behind Odo Rise, telling him: "Young man, I'm told you're going to run for general secretary. I wish you all the best".
"He [Akufo-Addo] pulled money. He didn't count. It was US$2,000", Mr Mornah told the host.
He stressed that the money was handed to him directly by Mr Akufo-Addo, "and I took it".
"He supported me, at the time, with US$2,000".
Mr Mornah said after Mr Akufo-Addo's magnanimity, he went to rent a car and drove up north for the contest.
